June 29: A stampede near Shree Gundicha Temple during the Rath Yatra in Odisha’s Puri early Sunday left three people dead and 50 injured. The incident occurred around 4–4:30 am as a massive crowd gathered for darshan. Puri Collector Siddharth S. Swain said a sudden surge led to the chaos. The deceased—Prativa Das (52), Premakanta Mohanty (78), and Basanti Sahu (42)—were all from Khurda district. Expressing grief, Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi apologised, citing the overwhelming rush of devotees to see Mahaprabhu at Sharadhabali.
