New Delhi, April 29:
In the lead-up to a high-stakes Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting scheduled for Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday convened a top-level security meeting at his official residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg. The meeting was attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
The flurry of high-level consultations comes amid heightened security concerns following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which left 26 people dead, most of them tourists.
Earlier in the day, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan chaired a separate high-level meeting with the heads of three central paramilitary forces and senior officials from two other key security agencies. The discussion focused on assessing the security situation and enhancing coordination among agencies in the wake of the Pahalgam incident.
Meanwhile, in a continuing crackdown on terror networks in Jammu and Kashmir, security forces have intensified operations. On Monday, police in Doda district carried out raids at 13 locations to uncover terrorist hideouts and apprehend individuals linked to militant activities.
In a parallel operation, the Srinagar Police searched 63 locations across the city targeting Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and associates of banned terrorist organisations. These searches, carried out under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), were conducted in the presence of Executive Magistrates and independent witnesses, adhering strictly to legal protocols, the police said in a statement.
