SRINAGAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked India’s 79th Independence Day on Friday by unfurling the national flag at the Red Fort and addressing the nation on its progress, unity, and challenges.
Paying tribute to the framers of the Constitution, Modi praised women’s contributions to the freedom struggle and nation-building. He described Independence Day as a celebration of the resolve and achievements of 140 crore Indians, united under the Tiranga.
Referring to the abrogation of Article 370, he said it fulfilled the vision of Shyama Prasad Mookherjee and strengthened the principle of “one nation, one Constitution.” The event saw the presence of representatives from remote panchayats, innovators, sportspersons, and achievers from various fields.
Modi lauded the armed forces, citing “Operation Sindoor” and their decisive action following the April 22 killing of civilians by terrorists. He said the forces had been given complete freedom to act against such threats.
