Srinagar, Aug 31 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his Mann Ki Baat address, praised Jammu and Kashmir for two major sporting milestones despite the ongoing flood crisis.

He highlighted Pulwama’s first-ever day-night cricket match, which drew thousands of spectators, calling it a reflection of the region’s passion for sports. Modi also lauded Srinagar’s Dal Lake for hosting the country’s first Khelo India Water Sports Festival, showcasing both local talent and the Valley’s natural beauty.

“These milestones show the resilience and spirit of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, proving how sports can unite and inspire even in adversity,” he said.

The initiatives, part of the Khelo India programme, aim to strengthen sports infrastructure and nurture grassroots talent while promoting J&K as a hub for both sports and tourism.
