Jammu and Kashmir, May 6 — The Line of Control (LoC) remains volatile as Pakistani forces continued unprovoked ceasefire violations for the 12th night in a row, drawing a measured and proportionate response from the Indian Army. The firing, which occurred during the night of May 5–6, targeted multiple sectors including Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajouri, Mendhar, Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor.
An Indian Army spokesperson confirmed that the Pakistani side resorted to small-arms fire across various forward posts. The latest flare-up comes amid mounting tensions following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 people, most of them tourists.
In the wake of the attack, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty on April 24. In retaliation, Pakistan closed its airspace to Indian aircraft, sealed the Wagah border crossing, suspended bilateral trade, and warned that any diversion of water allocated to it under the treaty would be treated as an “act of war.”
The renewed hostilities mark a sharp departure from the ceasefire understanding reached between India and Pakistan in February 2021, raising fresh concerns about the fragile peace along the LoC.
