ISLAMABAD, May 22 – In a tit-for-tat move, Pakistan on Thursday announced the expulsion of a staffer from the Indian High Commission, escalating diplomatic tensions between the two countries.

The decision comes a day after India expelled a Pakistani official from its high commission in New Delhi, accusing him of involvement in espionage activities. This marks the second such expulsion within a week.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that the Pakistani staffer was declared persona non grata for engaging in activities “not in keeping with his official status.” He was given 24 hours to leave the country.

Pakistan has yet to release the specific charges against the Indian staffer but described the expulsion as a reciprocal measure.

This latest development underscores the strained relations between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, often marred by allegations of espionage and diplomatic standoffs.
