Srinagar, Nov 2: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday said that the Kashmir Marathon plays a vital role in boosting tourism, fostering youth participation, and strengthening community engagement across Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking at the Polo View Ground in Srinagar after the conclusion of the marathon’s second edition, Sinha congratulated all participants and winners, saying the event reflects teamwork, dedication, and the unifying power of sports that brings together people from diverse regions and backgrounds.
Highlighting the importance of such initiatives, the Lieutenant Governor said that events like the Kashmir Marathon promote physical fitness and social connection. He added that running instills consistency and self-discipline—qualities that extend beyond athletics into everyday life.
“Each runner, regardless of distance or timing, demonstrates determination and the drive to achieve personal milestones. The commitment to finish the race shows how focus and perseverance help overcome challenges,” Sinha said.
The LG further emphasized the marathon’s economic impact, noting that it benefits local vendors, the hospitality sector, and tourism-related enterprises. With regular organization, he said, the event could become a permanent fixture in Jammu and Kashmir’s tourism calendar and attract participants from across the country and abroad.
Sinha said that such sporting events enhance social interaction, build stronger community bonds, and motivate youth to embrace healthy lifestyles. He added that Jammu and Kashmir’s scenic landscape provides the perfect backdrop for long-distance running events that blend sport with natural beauty.
He also announced plans to host similar marathons in other regions of the Union Territory, including Jammu, to ensure wider participation and balanced regional development. “Both cities can jointly project J&K as a prominent destination for outdoor sports,” the LG said.
