Baramulla, June 18:
In a high-level review meeting held on Wednesday, Minister Javid Ahmad Dar chaired a comprehensive assessment of healthcare services in Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla, and the Medical Blocks of Rafiabad and Sopore. The minister emphasized the pressing need for immediate reforms in the region’s healthcare infrastructure.
During the meeting, Minister Dar underlined the importance of upgrading Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Community Health Centres (CHCs), and Sub-District Hospitals (SDHs) to enhance healthcare accessibility and quality for the general public. He directed health officials to take time-bound and result-oriented steps to strengthen infrastructure, address staff shortages, and ensure efficient delivery of medical services.
“Healthcare is a fundamental right, and we must ensure that people receive timely, affordable, and quality treatment,” the minister said, calling for the prompt filling of vacant posts and improvements in service delivery mechanisms.
Officials from the Health Department, administrators from GMC Baramulla, and representatives from the concerned medical blocks attended the meeting. They briefed the minister on current challenges, including gaps in manpower, outdated facilities, and the need for modern equipment.
Minister Dar assured full government support in resolving these issues and reiterated his commitment to making healthcare services more accessible and robust, particularly in rural and far-flung areas.
The review meeting is expected to be followed by a series of monitoring visits and status evaluations in the coming weeks to ensure the effective implementation of the directives.
