Kolkata, June 27:
A woman was allegedly gang-raped on the premises of South Calcutta Law College earlier this week, prompting the arrest of three individuals, including a student wing leader of the ruling Trinamool Congress and two current students.
The incident reportedly took place on Wednesday evening, between 7:30 pm and 10:50 pm, inside the college campus. Based on the survivor’s complaint, police launched an investigation that led to the arrest of the accused.
The three were produced before a court on Thursday and remanded to five days of police custody.
According to police sources, one of the arrested individuals is a former student of the college and currently holds a leadership role in the Trinamool Congress’ student wing. The case has sparked outrage, recalling a similar incident at RG Kar Medical College over six months ago, which triggered widespread protests across the city and beyond.
