SRINAGAR: The Jammu & Kashmir government has launched a 24×7 toll-free helpline — 1800-8900-166 — to assist students from the Union Territory facing harassment or threats in other parts of India.
Set up at the Raabita Office in Srinagar, the helpline aims to provide immediate support and coordinate with local authorities when needed. The move follows reports of targeted intimidation of Kashmiri students after the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed concern over the incidents and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to student safety. An All Party Meeting also passed a resolution urging all States and Union Territories to ensure the security and dignity of Kashmiri students and citizens.
The government has appealed to educational institutions and local administrations across India to maintain communal harmony and act firmly against any attempts to incite unrest. Families and students are encouraged to report any such incidents through the helpline.
