Srinagar:
GM Shaheen, President of Janta Dal United (JDU), Jammu and Kashmir, on Thursday urged the Union Ministry of External Affairs to take urgent and decisive action to ensure the safety of Kashmiri students studying in Iran, as the situation in the region continues to deteriorate.
The President of JDU Jammu and Kashmir, has made a strong appeal to the Union Minister for External Affairs, Dr. S. Jaishankar, expressing grave concern over the safety, security, and psychological well-being of Kashmiri students currently residing in various Iranian cities. He described the prevailing conditions as highly volatile, leaving students trapped in fear, uncertainty, and growing instability.
In a statement, Shaheen said that any silence or delay at this critical juncture would amount to “gross administrative negligence and a moral failure,” stressing that the government must act with urgency rather than relying on routine advisories.
The JDU President has put forward a series of categorical demands to the Ministry of External Affairs, including an immediate and transparent assessment of ground realities affecting Indian, particularly Kashmiri, students in Iran. He also called for the activation of emergency diplomatic protocols such as 24×7 helplines, deployment of dedicated liaison officers, and real-time monitoring through Indian diplomatic missions.
Shaheen further demanded unconditional protection, logistical support, and emergency assistance for all affected students, along with the initiation of an urgent evacuation and safe return plan to Jammu and Kashmir, without waiting for the situation to worsen.
“Kashmiri students cannot be treated as collateral damage of geopolitical hesitation. Their lives, aspirations, and futures are non-negotiable,” Shaheen asserted, adding that parents in Jammu and Kashmir are living in deep anguish and deserve certainty and swift repatriation of their children.
He warned that any failure to act promptly would deepen public distrust and raise serious questions of accountability, stating that the situation demands leadership, urgency, and humanitarian resolve rather than procedural delays.
Janta Dal United, Jammu and Kashmir, reaffirmed its solidarity with the affected students and their families and pledged to continue pressing the issue until every Kashmiri student is brought back safely, securely, and with dignity.
