New Delhi, April 21:
Union Minister Giriraj Singh launched a scathing attack on Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Sunday, following Gandhi’s remarks alleging that the Election Commission is “compromised.” Singh accused Gandhi of undermining democratic institutions and attempting to shift public focus from the ongoing National Herald case.
“Rahul Gandhi doesn’t think for the betterment of the country. He abuses the Prime Minister when he is in India and abuses India when he goes abroad,” said Singh in a statement. He further claimed, “This is nothing but a desperate attempt to distract people from the National Herald case. Rahul Gandhi should resign.”
Gandhi’s comment about the Election Commission sparked a strong reaction from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has repeatedly accused the Congress of questioning constitutional bodies for political gain. Gandhi had recently said that key democratic institutions, including the Election Commission, are no longer impartial under the BJP-led government.
The Congress, however, defended Gandhi’s stance, arguing that raising questions about institutional independence is essential in a democracy. Party leaders pointed to what they call a “pattern of partisan behavior” by the Commission in recent years.
As political temperatures rise ahead of the next phase of the general elections, such exchanges highlight the deeply polarized political climate, where personal accusations and institutional criticisms increasingly dominate the campaign narrative.
