PATNA, Nov 8: The first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections witnessed a record voter turnout of 65.08 per cent, the highest in the state’s history, according to the Election Commission of India.

Polling was held on November 6 across 45,341 polling stations, including 36,733 in rural areas, to decide the fate of 1,314 candidates — 1,192 men and 122 women.

Out of 3.75 crore eligible voters, the voter participation marked a significant surge of 7.79 percentage points compared to the 2020 Assembly elections, when the turnout stood at 57.29 per cent, as per the latest figures released by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Bihar.

Election officials described the turnout as “historic,” crediting the rise to greater voter awareness and improved polling arrangements across the state.
