PATNA, Oct 15: Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor announced that he will not contest the upcoming Bihar assembly elections, saying the decision was made in the party’s larger interest.

In an interview with PTI, Kishor said contesting could have distracted him from crucial organisational work. The party has instead fielded another candidate from Raghopur, where RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav is contesting.

Kishor asserted that Jan Suraaj aims for a decisive mandate. “We will either win big or face a total defeat. A tally below 150 seats will be a loss for me,” he said, adding that a fractured verdict was “impossible.”

He further stated that a strong performance would give the party a mandate to transform Bihar into one of India’s top ten developed states, while a poor showing would push them to continue their “politics of the street and society.”

The Bihar polls are scheduled in two phases on November 6 and 11, with counting on November 14.
