uly 8, 2025 — Tech billionaire Elon Musk has officially entered the political arena with the launch of a new political outfit, the America Party. The move marks a significant shift for Musk, coming on the heels of a public fallout with former U.S. President Donald Trump, who recently criticized the Tesla CEO, saying he “has gone off the rails.”
Musk has appointed Tesla’s Chief Financial Officer, Vaibhav Taneja, as the party’s first official member and treasurer. Taneja, a Delhi University graduate and Chartered Accountant of Indian origin, will oversee the party’s finances and ensure compliance with federal regulations.
Taneja joined Tesla in 2017 following the company’s acquisition of SolarCity. He ascended to the role of CFO in 2023 and garnered headlines in 2024 for earning a staggering $139 million in compensation.
The political announcement has already had market repercussions, with Tesla’s shares falling by 8% following the news.
Musk has not yet outlined a formal political platform for the America Party, but sources close to the development suggest it will center on innovation, free speech, and government reform.
