Srinagar, June 23: Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo chaired a high-level meeting to review the functioning of Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, emphasizing the need for comprehensive upgrades in infrastructure, academics, and research.
Dulloo called for the time-bound enhancement of emergency and OPD services, expansion of academic programmes—including the addition of 44 DM/MCH and 130 MD/MS/PGD seats—and the operationalisation of the Liver Transplant Unit by the end of the year.
He also underscored the urgent need for faculty recruitment, intensified research into rising cancer cases in the region, and the establishment of new Centres of Excellence to elevate the institute’s clinical and academic stature.
The SKIMS Director presented detailed expansion plans, including a ₹94 crore investment in advanced medical technologies and AI-driven innovations aimed at improving diagnostic and treatment capabilities.
