SRINAGAR: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday announced it will contest the upcoming by-elections in Budgam and Nagrota constituencies next month.
The Budgam seat fell vacant after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chose to retain Ganderbal, while Nagrota fell vacant following the death of senior BJP leader Davendra Raina.
Speaking to the media in Jammu, Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma said the BJP would contest both seats with full determination. “We may not be strong in Budgam, but we will fight both seats with full power. Candidate names will be announced soon,” he said.
Commenting on the PDP’s proposed “anti-bulldozer” bill, Sharma alleged it aims to protect illegal encroachments. “The PDP wants to safeguard land mafia and illegal occupants. We will not allow such a bill,” he added.
