SRINAGAR: Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Pulwama, Waheed Parra, and Peoples Conference President and MLA Handwara, Sajad Lone, on Monday strongly condemned the invocation of the Public Safety Act (PSA) against MLA Mehraj Malik, terming it a fresh assault on the democratic ethos of Jammu and Kashmir.
Taking to X, Parra said the law was being weaponised to “crush dissent,” stressing that authoritarian measures cannot address political disagreements in a democratic setup.
“Strongly condemn the use of PSA against MLA Mehraj Malik. Such draconian laws are weaponised to silence political voices and stifle dissent. Authoritarian measures are no way to resolve differences in a democracy,” Parra wrote.
Echoing similar concerns, Sajad Lone denounced the move as a blow to democracy. “We strongly condemn the use of PSA against MLA Mehraj Malik. This is a soulless democracy,” Lone said, warning that such actions reduce democratic processes to a mere facade.
