Srinagar, August 25: PDP president and former J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday led a protest march in Srinagar, demanding that prisoners from the Union Territory lodged in jails outside be shifted back.Party leaders said the demand was not only about relocation but also about ensuring dignity, fairness, and legal safeguards. They argued that detention outside J&K deprives prisoners of family contact, affects their right to defence, and undermines fair trial standards. The PDP also called for speedy trials, regular court appearances of accused individuals, and reforms to prevent prolonged pre-trial detention, stressing that “justice delayed is justice denied.”
