SRINAGAR, June 13 — National Conference (NC) Member of Parliament Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi has sharply criticised Israel over its recent military operations in the Middle East, accusing it of acting aggressively against sovereign nations and undermining regional stability.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the Srinagar MP said, “Israel has bombed Palestine, Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, and Iran—yet continues to portray itself as a victim. This rogue Zionist regime is not engaged in self-defence but behaving like a colonial aggressor.”
Mehdi asserted that military actions targeting independent nations reflect not strength but a form of terrorism. He supported Iran’s right to retaliate, calling it a legitimate act of self-defence under international norms.
“Iran, like any sovereign state, has the right to respond and seek retribution for aggression,” he said, adding that “the Zionist regime must be held accountable for its actions in Gaza—for the bloodshed and mass killings it has inflicted.”
He also took aim at India’s recent abstention from a United Nations General Assembly vote calling for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza. Mehdi expressed disappointment over the decision, suggesting that India had missed an opportunity to stand on the side of justice and humanitarian values.
