SRINAGAR: Jammu city received 190.4 mm of rain in 24 hours up to 8:30 a.m., marking its second-highest August rainfall in nearly 100 years and triggering flood-like conditions across the region.

According to Kashmir Weather, this is the heaviest August downpour since 2022, when 189.6 mm was recorded. The all-time record stands at 228.6 mm, set on August 5, 1926.

The rains pushed rivers above danger levels, particularly in Kathua district, where the Ujh River swelled beyond safety marks at several points. At Panjtirthi, it flowed at 108,750 cusecs against the 88,000 cusec danger mark, while Kathua recorded 106,160 cusecs, exceeding its 95,099 cusec threshold.

In Kathua, the Sahar Khad river damaged a bridge near Logate Mor on the Jammu–Pathankot National Highway, disrupting traffic before authorities intervened.
