Srinagar, Aug 16: Kashmiri Pandits marked the festival of Janmashtami with great devotion on Saturday, taking out a vibrant religious procession through the heart of Srinagar to celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna, officials said.
The procession commenced from the historic Ganpatyar temple in Habba Kadal and made its way through Kralkhud and Barbarshah before reaching the iconic clock tower at Lal Chowk, amid elaborate security arrangements.
The city centre resonated with devotional songs and celebrations as men, women, and children—some dressed as Lord Krishna—joined the procession. Devotees sang bhajans, danced joyfully alongside the chariot, and offered prayers, creating a festive atmosphere, officials added.
Special prayers were also offered for the victims of the recent cloudburst in Kishtwar district.
After passing through Jehangir Chowk, the procession concluded at the Ganpatyar temple, bringing the day-long celebrations to a close.
