Rajouri, Aug 8: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday trapped and arrested a junior assistant posted in the office of the Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR) Rajouri for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹4,000.

According to the ACB, a complaint was received from a local resident alleging that he had submitted a file for the registration of three marlas of land in his name with the concerned clerk, identified as Umar Nawaz, who also holds additional charge as Junior Assistant in the Sub-Registrar’s office, Rajouri. The accused allegedly demanded ₹15,000 to process the file, later negotiating the amount to ₹4,000.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB, which registered FIR No. 04/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) at its police station in Rajouri.

A trap team was constituted and the accused, Umar Nawaz, son of Naseer Hussain, resident of Saaz, Tehsil Thanamandi, was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe. The money was recovered from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses.

Following the arrest, searches were conducted at the accused’s residence in Thanamandi. The investigation is ongoing, the ACB said.
