Srinagar, June 25 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said he is willing to step aside for a BJP CM if that’s what it takes to restore statehood, urging the Centre to clarify its stance.

In an exclusive interview with KNS, Omar said, “If statehood needs a BJP CM, I’ll step aside. Let the Centre be honest about it so people know the truth.”

He reiterated his government’s commitment to its five-year mandate, highlighting improvements in power supply and infrastructure. “Just yesterday, we approved a ₹10,600 crore road and tunnel connectivity package,” he noted.

Responding to PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Baigh’s call for his resignation, Omar said, “Why should I resign? No one resigned in 2016 when people were dying. There was no apology, just talk of milk and toffees.”

He defended his government’s record, citing the Assembly’s resolution on special status as proof of honoring the public mandate.
