Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, issued a direct and unprecedented threat on Thursday, stating that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, “can no longer be allowed to exist,” following a missile strike that hit a hospital in Tel Aviv, killing at least 23 people and injuring dozens more.
The missile, believed to be an Iranian-made Shahab variant, struck the emergency wing of the Tel Aviv General Hospital late Wednesday night. Israeli officials confirmed that several patients, medical personnel, and civilians were among the casualties.
“This is a red line crossed,” Katz said during a press conference at the Ministry of Defense in Tel Aviv. “Iran has moved from proxy attacks to direct acts of war. Ayatollah Khamenei, as the commander of this aggression, must now face the consequences. He can no longer be allowed to exist.”
