KANANASKIS, Canada (Jun 18, PTI) – Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a series of bilateral meetings with world leaders on the sidelines of the G7 Summit, focusing on trade, investment, counter-terrorism, green energy, and regional and global issues.
Modi met with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, discussing cooperation in green hydrogen, shipbuilding, technology, and trade. With French President Emmanuel Macron, he reaffirmed Indo-French collaboration for global welfare. British PM Keir Starmer and Modi discussed strengthening India-UK ties, particularly in commerce.
Italian PM Giorgia Meloni and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum also met Modi. With Sheinbaum, in their first meeting, discussions centered on semiconductors, healthcare, critical minerals, and people-to-people ties. Modi appreciated Mexico’s support against terrorism.
Modi and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, in their first meeting since Merz took office, agreed to bolster ties in defense, green technology, and counter-terrorism. Discussions with Australian PM Anthony Albanese, Japanese PM Shigeru Ishiba, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, and Brazilian President Lula da Silva highlighted a shared focus on Global South priorities.
He also engaged with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa. Canadian PM Mark Carney welcomed Modi to Canada for his first visit in ten years.
