Srinagar, June 15: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has reaffirmed its commitment to upgrading Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) across the Union Territory, with continuous improvement of healthcare services remaining a top priority.

Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, while reviewing the status of critical infrastructure, faculty recruitment, and specialised course expansion, underscored the urgent need to strengthen critical care services and ensure timely medical interventions to save lives.

During the review, it was revealed that 391 applications have been submitted to the National Medical Commission (NMC) for seat enhancement in MD/MS, DNB, and DM/MCh courses. Several disciplines have already received approval, marking a significant step toward expanding postgraduate medical education in the region.

The Chief Secretary called for swift augmentation of healthcare manpower and optimal utilisation of infrastructure under the PM-ABHIM scheme. He also stressed the importance of fostering collaboration between SKIMS and premier GMCs to enhance the overall quality and accessibility of healthcare services across Jammu and Kashmir.
