Jammu & Kashmir, June 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday dedicated the world’s tallest railway bridge—spanning the Chenab River in Jammu and Kashmir—to the nation, marking a significant leap in India’s infrastructure advancement.

After arriving at the Indian Air Force station in Udhampur, the Prime Minister proceeded to the Chenab bridge site, where he formally inaugurated the engineering marvel. This visit also marks his first to the Union Territory since Operation Sindoor—a strategic military operation launched in response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack in April, which claimed 26 lives.

The Chenab bridge, part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, now establishes seamless rail connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of India—an achievement decades in the making.

Following this inauguration, PM Modi is also set to unveil the Anji Khad bridge, India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge, aimed at further improving access in the region. Additionally, he will flag off two Vande Bharat Express trains between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Srinagar, marking the operationalization of the entire 272-kilometre USBRL corridor.
