PAHALGAM (J&K), May 27: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday said the atmosphere of fear in Kashmir has significantly eased, and he urged tourists to return to the valley to experience its natural beauty and hospitality.

Speaking to reporters in Pahalgam, the former chief minister of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir emphasized the importance of reviving the tourism sector, which has been severely impacted in the aftermath of the April 22 terror attack that claimed 26 lives.

“The fear that once loomed over Kashmir has considerably reduced,” Abdullah said. “I appeal to people across the country and abroad to visit the valley, enjoy its scenic charm, and support the local economy.”

He also called on the Ministry of External Affairs to take proactive steps to persuade foreign governments to revoke negative travel advisories issued against Jammu and Kashmir, saying such measures are crucial for the revival of tourism and overall development in the region.

The April attack in Pahalgam had raised fresh concerns over security, leading to a dip in tourist arrivals. However, local stakeholders believe that a renewed push for normalcy and improved security could help restore confidence among travelers.
