Poonch, May 12: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited Poonch district on Monday to assess the situation following recent cross-border shelling incidents that resulted in civilian casualties and injuries.

During his visit, the Chief Minister interacted with members of civil society from various communities. He acknowledged their resilience and listened to accounts of their experiences during the shelling. He assured them that the government is committed to standing by them, both in terms of support and emotional well-being. Discussions were also held on future strategies to prevent such incidents and on plans for rehabilitation.

The Chief Minister met with families who lost loved ones in the shelling. Expressing condolences, he said that the administration shares their grief and remains committed to providing all necessary assistance.

Later, Abdullah visited the district hospital in Poonch to inquire about those injured in the incident. He expressed admiration for their courage and assured them of the best possible medical care and full administrative support.

The visit comes amid heightened tensions along the Line of Control (LoC) and growing concerns over civilian safety in border areas.
