Jammu, May 9: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah traveled to Jammu on Friday morning to assess the situation following a failed drone and missile attack by Pakistan on Thursday night. The attempted strike targeted multiple military locations, including Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur, but was successfully neutralized by Indian forces.
“Driving to Jammu now to take stock of the situation after last night’s failed Pakistani drone attack directed at Jammu city and other parts of the division,” Abdullah posted on X.
Sirens and explosions were reported across Akhnoor, Samba, Baramulla, Kupwara, and other regions, prompting the Jammu and Kashmir government to take precautionary measures. Education Minister Sakina Itoo announced the closure of schools for the next two days due to the heightened security threat.
The Chief Minister added that the government will review the school closure order on Monday, depending on the prevailing situation.
The Indian Defence Ministry assured that the country is “fully prepared to defend its sovereignty and ensure the safety of its people,” in the wake of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
