May 6: The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has announced a phased power shutdown across several districts of South Kashmir to facilitate critical maintenance at the 475 MVA, 220/132 KV Grid Substation in Mirbazar. The shutdowns, scheduled between May 8 and May 20, 2025, are part of a broader effort by the Jammu and Kashmir Power Transmission Corporation Limited (JKPTCL) to ensure grid reliability ahead of the Amarnath Yatra 2025.
According to the Chief Engineer at KPDCL, the scheduled outages are necessary for the maintenance of the main and reserve bus bars and for rectifying faults in the DC circuit of the grid’s protection system.
The maintenance activity will affect several 132 KV and 220 KV transmission lines, with power interruptions planned across specific time slots. The areas expected to experience power outages include Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama, Shopian, Qazigund, Pahalgam, Kokernag, Dooru, and parts of Northern Railways, among others.
