Jammu, May 5, 2025: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a rally in Jammu on Monday, demanding the immediate deportation of illegally settled Rohingya refugees, as well as nationals from Pakistan and Bangladesh. The rally was led by senior party figures, including Sat Sharma, who presented a memorandum to the Jammu administration, urging swift action on the deportation of these individuals due to ongoing security concerns.
The rally is part of a broader national campaign, with several states ramping up efforts to identify and expel foreign nationals residing in India illegally. Authorities in Uttar Pradesh, for instance, have reportedly succeeded in nearly completely deporting Pakistani nationals within 24 hours following a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir. Similar operations have been carried out in Rajasthan, where more than 500 illegal immigrants, mostly from Bangladesh and Myanmar, were detained earlier this year.
The BJP’s rally underscores its continued stance on stringent immigration controls and national security. The party argues that such measures are vital to protect the country’s interests. However, the issue remains contentious, with human rights groups raising concerns about the treatment of refugees and the potential for discrimination in these deportation efforts.
The Jammu administration’s response to the BJP’s demands will be closely watched, particularly in light of India’s obligations under international law regarding refugees and asylum seekers.
