May 4: Jammu and Kashmir Minister Sakina Itoo on Sunday visited the family of a 22-year-old youth whose body was recovered from a stream in the Adbal Wattoo area of DH Pora in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
The deceased, identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Magray, son of Nazir Ahmad Magray and a resident of Tangmarg, was reportedly working as a labourer. He was suspected by police to have been an Over Ground Worker (OGW) with alleged links to militants.
According to officials, Magray had allegedly disclosed the location of a militant hideout believed to be sheltering two Pakistani militants. He was being taken to the site during a cordon and search operation (CASO) under police supervision when he reportedly jumped into the Vishaw Nallah, possibly in an attempt to flee. His body was later found in the stream by locals, who informed the police.
A police team recovered the body and initiated medico-legal formalities. An investigation is underway.
During her visit to the family, Minister Itoo expressed her condolences and called for a judicial inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Magray’s death.
