May 4: The body of a 23-year-old man, suspected to be an Over Ground Worker (OGW), was recovered from a stream in the Adbal Wattoo area of DH Pora in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Sunday.

Officials identified the deceased as Imtiaz Ahmad Magray, son of Nazir Ahmad Magray, a resident of Tangmarg. He was known to be working as a labourer.

Local residents spotted the body in the stream and alerted the police. A police team later arrived at the scene and took custody of the body for medico-legal formalities.

According to police sources, Magray had recently admitted to having knowledge of a militant hideout believed to be sheltering two Pakistani militants.

“He was being closely monitored during a cordon and search operation (CASO) launched earlier today. As he approached the suspected hideout near the riverbed, he suddenly jumped into the Vishaw Nallah, possibly in an attempt to flee via the waterway,” a police official said.

An investigation into the incident is underway.
