New Dehli- In a significant move citing national security and public policy concerns, the Government of India on Saturday announced an immediate ban on the import and transit of all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan. The decision was formalized through a notification issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), which introduced a new provision—Para 2.20A—into the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023, under the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992.The newly added clause states: “The direct or indirect import or transit of all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan, whether freely importable or otherwise permitted, shall be prohibited with immediate effect, until further orders.”The notification also clarifies that any exceptions to this restriction will require prior approval from the Government of India.
