NEW DELHI: In the wake of the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which left 26 people dead, India has taken a firm digital stance by restricting online access to prominent Pakistani figures. The official X (formerly Twitter) account of Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan has been blocked for users in India, alongside access restrictions placed on the Instagram accounts of well-known Pakistani celebrities Fawad Khan and Atif Aslam. The move, reflecting heightened diplomatic and digital tensions between the two nuclear-armed nations, was noted on Saturday. It follows Imran Khan’s recent post on X, where he condemned the Pahalgam attack as “disturbing and tragic” but simultaneously criticized India’s response. Drawing comparisons to the 2019 Pulwama attack, Khan accused New Delhi of “irresponsible behavior” and of blaming Pakistan without concrete evidence. He further alleged that India is advancing a Hindutva-driven agenda under the RSS, while oppressing Kashmiris—actions he claimed are fueling resistance in the region. These online restrictions signal India’s growing intolerance toward narratives perceived as provocative or hostile in the aftermath of attacks linked to cross-border terrorism.
