Srinagar: A tragic incident unfolded in the Sonwar-Rajbagh area of Srinagar on Wednesday morning when an elderly woman reportedly jumped into the River Jhelum from a footbridge, leading to her death.
Authorities confirmed that the woman, a resident of Palpora Sonwar, allegedly leaped into the river from the Aramwari footbridge. Following the distressing event, rescue operations were swiftly launched by the River Police Srinagar and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
After an extensive search, the woman’s body was recovered from the river and transported to a local hospital for the necessary medico-legal procedures.
The police have initiated an investigation into the incident and are working to determine the circumstances that led to this tragic loss.
