SRINAGAR, April 28:
The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly today observed a two-minute silence and tabled a resolution condemning the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, as the House convened for a special one-day session.

Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary introduced the resolution, which is yet to be formally adopted.

Reading from the resolution, Choudhary, as reported by JKNS, stated: “This House expresses its profound shock and anguish over the barbaric and inhumane attack carried out against innocent civilians in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025.”

The resolution unequivocally denounces the “heinous and cowardly act,” describing it as a direct assault on Kashmiriyat, constitutional values, and the spirit of peace, unity, and harmony that have historically defined Jammu and Kashmir and the nation at large.

Expressing solidarity with the victims and their families, the Assembly extended its deepest condolences and pledged unwavering support in their time of grief. The House also paid tribute to Shaheed Syed Adil Hussain Shah, who sacrificed his life while valiantly attempting to rescue tourists during the attack. His bravery and selflessness, the resolution noted, will continue to inspire future generations.

The Assembly lauded the people of Jammu and Kashmir for their remarkable display of unity, compassion, and resilience in the wake of the tragedy. Peaceful demonstrations across towns and villages, along with spontaneous acts of support for tourists, reaffirmed the people’s steadfast commitment to communal harmony, peace, and the rule of law.

The House endorsed the diplomatic measures announced by the Union Government on April 23, 2025, following the Cabinet Committee on Security meeting.

Warning against the underlying intentions behind the selective targeting in the attack, the resolution urged all sections of society, particularly the media, to exercise restraint and not fall prey to divisive narratives. It emphasised the critical need for unity and appealed to all State and Union Territory governments to ensure the safety, dignity, and well-being of Kashmiri students and citizens residing or travelling outside Jammu and Kashmir.

Finally, the House called upon political parties, religious and community leaders, youth organisations, civil society groups, and media outlets nationwide to maintain calm, reject violence and divisive rhetoric, and work collectively to uphold peace, unity, and the constitutional values of the Republic.(JKNS)
