Rajkot, Gujarat – A female teacher at a private school in Rajkot has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act following allegations of assault on a four-year-old student, police confirmed on Saturday.

The incident came to light after the child complained of pain in her private parts to her mother. A subsequent medical examination revealed internal injuries that had resulted in an infection, according to officials.

The complaint, filed between April 11 and 12, led to the registration of a case against the 42-year-old teacher. Deputy Commissioner of Police Jagdish Bangarwa stated that the child is currently undergoing psychiatric evaluation due to difficulties in communication. “The child mentioned being beaten by her teacher, but hasn’t clearly indicated whether a pen or hand was used to cause the injury,” he said.

The child’s mother later informed authorities that the school principal may also be involved, alleging that he took the child to his office and physically assaulted her.

While the accused teacher has denied any wrongdoing, the school administration has released CCTV footage from April 11, claiming it shows no evidence of the incident inside the classroom.

In response to the allegations, members of the National Students Union of India (NSUI), the Congress party’s student wing, held a protest demanding accountability and swift action. Several demonstrators were briefly detained by police during the protest.

The investigation is ongoing as police examine video evidence and monitor the child’s medical and psychological assessments.
