Mumbai Indians Urged to Reconsider Rohit Sharma’s Batting Position Amidst Form Struggles

Rohit Sharma’s ongoing poor form has been a concern for Mumbai Indians, according to former Indian women’s cricket captain Anjum Chopra. Despite his status as the team’s former captain, Rohit has been struggling with consistent low scores in the IPL, including 0, 8, 13, 17, and 18. This lack of form has hindered the Mumbai Indians’ ability to set the right tone in their matches. In their recent 12-run victory against Delhi Capitals, MI still finds itself in seventh place in the points table with a record of two wins and four losses.

Anjum Chopra acknowledged that being out of form isn’t a crime but emphasized that it’s impacting Mumbai Indians’ performance at the top of the order. She suggested that if Rohit’s position at the top isn’t yielding the desired results, it might be time to consider demoting him in the batting order. “It’s not that Rohit is out of form entirely; sometimes, a poor start to a tournament can affect a player. But the team has options and could look at moving him down the order if needed,” she explained.

Anjum further compared the situation to the high-pressure environment of a World Cup, where players are expected to be in form when it counts. She also reminded everyone of Rohit’s capabilities, stating, “We know what kind of player he is, and what a match-winner he can be.”

On the other hand, Anjum offered encouraging words for young opener Shafali Verma, who has been overlooked for selection in the Indian team. She advised Shafali to remain positive and not see this setback as the end of her career. “At 20 or 21, there’s still so much more ahead. It’s just the beginning of her journey, and every player faces challenges like this,” Anjum said. She reassured Shafali that setbacks are part of a cricketer’s career and emphasized that making a comeback is always possible.

Both Rohit Sharma and Shafali Verma have the potential to bounce back, according to Anjum, and it’s crucial for them to stay focused and positive despite the challenges they are currently facing.
