New Delhi: Former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has been appointed as the Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, party leaders confirmed on Sunday. The decision was made during a meeting of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislators, which was attended by party chief Arvind Kejriwal and all 22 AAP MLAs, including Atishi, who represents the Kalkaji constituency.

The first session of the newly elected Delhi Assembly is set to begin on February 24. During the three-day session, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has announced its plans to table pending Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports scrutinizing the performance of the previous AAP-led administration.

The AAP suffered a significant defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections held on February 5, with the BJP securing a sweeping victory by winning 48 out of 70 seats. Among the prominent losses for AAP were party convener Arvind Kejriwal and senior leader Manish Sisodia, both of whom failed to retain their seats.
