Sheikhpura, June 2 : Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Tuesday criticized the RJD over the controversy surrounding the government bungalow occupied by former chief minister Rabri Devi. Without naming the party, he remarked that Bihar was “not a monarchy,” adding that “the mother wants one house, and the son desires another.”

Speaking at a public grievance redressal camp in Sheikhpura, Choudhary referred to Rabri Devi’s refusal to vacate 10, Circular Road despite being allotted another residence as Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council. Her son and Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, already occupies a separate government residence.

Highlighting his own conduct, Choudhary said he had lived in his private house for years and moved into the chief minister’s official residence only at the insistence of his predecessor, Nitish Kumar. He praised Kumar for promptly vacating the residence after stepping down and said he too would leave office without hesitation if asked by party leaders.

The chief minister accused some politicians of treating government bungalows as inherited property, reiterating that public offices and residences are not personal possessions.
