SRINAGAR: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday granted interim bail to Baramulla MP Sheikh Abdul Rashid from June 25 to June 30 to allow him to attend the 40th-day post-death rituals of his father in Srinagar.
A bench comprising Justices Prathiba M. Singh and Madhu Jain directed that Rashid, currently lodged in Tihar Jail, be released for the ceremonies. The court also ordered him to surrender on June 2 after the expiry of his present interim bail, which had been granted on May 18 to attend his father’s last rites.
The High Court said the same conditions imposed during his current release would continue, including that he must remain accompanied by at least two plainclothes police personnel from Tihar Jail during his stay in Srinagar. He will be allowed to visit the burial ground and places of worship but cannot travel elsewhere beyond his residence.
Rashid’s counsel had sought an extension of interim bail earlier granted on April 28 to meet his ailing father. The bail period was later extended till May 10 after his father was admitted to AIIMS, New Delhi, where he subsequently passed away.
