SRINAGAR: Three Indian Army officers, including a senior commander, escaped unharmed after a Cheetah helicopter crash-landed in the Tangtse sector near Leh on Saturday, officials said.
According to officials familiar with the incident, the helicopter was being flown by a Lieutenant Colonel and a Major when the mishap occurred in the high-altitude mountainous region. Major General Sachin Mehta, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 3 Infantry Division, was also on board as a passenger.
All three officers survived the crash, though officials have not yet disclosed details regarding possible injuries or the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Cheetah helicopter, widely used by the Army for transport and operational duties in difficult terrain, was operating in the rugged Tangtse area where such flights are routine.
An investigation is expected to be launched to determine the cause of the crash.
