ABU DHABI, May 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said India is ready to extend “all possible support” for peace in West Asia during talks with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi.
The meeting took place shortly after Modi arrived in the UAE on the first leg of his five-nation tour, which also includes visits to four European countries.
Condemning the recent attacks on the UAE amid the ongoing US-Israeli conflict with Iran, Modi said targeting the Gulf nation was “not acceptable.” He, however, praised the UAE leadership for handling the situation with restraint.
“The impact of the West Asian conflict is being felt globally. India is ready to extend all possible support to bring peace in West Asia,” Modi said during the talks.
The Prime Minister was received at the airport by Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour, underlining the importance the UAE attached to the visit.
In a social media post, Modi thanked the UAE President for the “gracious gesture” of personally receiving him at Abu Dhabi Airport and said he looked forward to discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in sectors such as energy, investment and supply chains.
