Srinagar, May 15: A woman was rescued alive after allegedly attempting suicide by jumping into the waters of Dal Lake near Nanwai Market in the Hazratbal area of Srinagar on Friday evening.

According to officials, the incident occurred near the revered Hazratbal Shrine, prompting an immediate response from the SDRF Quick Response Team (QRT) deployed in the area.

Officials said the woman was believed to be under severe mental distress at the time of the incident. Soon after receiving the alert, rescue teams launched an operation to save her.

The rescue effort was jointly carried out by personnel of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Jammu and Kashmir Police, and local residents, who managed to pull the woman out of the lake safely.

She was later shifted to Police Post Hazratbal for safety and further assistance. Authorities have withheld her identity, while further proceedings in the matter are underway.
