SRINAGAR: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Thursday said that parts of Jammu and Kashmir witnessed light to moderate snowfall over higher reaches and light rain across many areas of the Jammu division during the past 24 hours.

According to the weather office, the overall weather scenario in the Union Territory is expected to remain largely stable in the coming weeks. On January 1, the weather is likely to remain generally cloudy, with light rain or snowfall at scattered places across J&K.

The Meteorological Centre further stated that no major Western Disturbances are expected to affect the region till January 20, except for a few feeble Western Disturbances, which may bring brief and insignificant weather activity.

The absence of strong Western Disturbances indicates a reduced likelihood of widespread snowfall or heavy precipitation in the region during this period, the department added.

Meanwhile, residents, especially those in higher reaches, have been advised to remain cautious as light snowfall may continue intermittently at isolated locations.
