SRINAGAR: With the JKAS preliminary exam just days away, aspirants remain uncertain about age relaxation as the government has not issued any formal order despite months of verbal assurances from top officials, including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Candidates said the demand has been pending since June, when the 2025 recruitment process began. Delegations met officials in Srinagar and Jammu multiple times and were repeatedly told the government would relax the upper age limit.
According to aspirants, the latest assurance came on November 4, when a senior official said the proposal would be placed before the cabinet within two days. They also recently met the Chief Minister, who reiterated that the relaxation would be granted and urged them to focus on their preparation.
However, the General Administration Department has not issued any official communication, saying the file is still under process. Due to the uncertainty, the JKPSC reportedly held back the admit cards for two days, but eventually released them on Monday evening. The preliminary exam is slated for December 7.
Currently, the age cap is 32 for the open category and 37 for reserved categories. Aspirants are demanding that it be raised to 37 and 40 respectively, as done in previous years.
Another group of candidates is scheduled to meet senior officials today, hoping that the cabinet meeting at the CM’s residence tomorrow will finalize a favourable decision.
