Srinagar: On World AIDS Day, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reiterated the Jammu and Kashmir Government’s dedication to strengthening HIV/AIDS awareness, prevention, testing and treatment services across the Union Territory.

Highlighting this year’s theme, “Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response,” the Chief Minister underscored the need for collective responsibility and sustained efforts to support individuals affected by HIV/AIDS. He said the theme reflects the ongoing efforts to rebuild and improve health services that were disrupted in recent years, ensuring no vulnerable group is left behind.

Abdullah stressed that dignity, care and compassion must remain at the forefront of the AIDS response. He assured that the government is committed to creating a supportive environment where every person living with HIV receives equitable access to healthcare, social acceptance and continued assistance.

Reaffirming the administration’s resolve, he said the government is determined to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030, aligning its mission with global targets and national strategies.

World AIDS Day is observed annually on December 1 to raise awareness, remember those who lost their lives to the disease and stand in solidarity with people living with HIV.
